Extraordinary opportunities like this come along rarely - opportunities to talk about what's really wrong with this once great nation, and to take steps to actually fix it. Yes, it's true. The one honest member of the US Congress, a man who is not afraid to challenge the political correctness that now dominates both major parties and the political establishment in general, is running for President. This is Republican Congressman Dr. Ron Paul from Texas. Now, before most of you liberals and progressives run for the hills at the mention of the dreaded "R" Word, Republican, or the "C" word, conservative, please be assured that Dr. Paul is truly a renegade, who breaks all of these traditional molds. Perhaps the best proof of this is the fact that the Republican hierarchy is so afraid of this man that they have seriously considered trying to ban him from future debates. Let's put it this way: if the Founding Fathers, the creators of the US Constitution, the greatest political and legal document ever devised, were conservatives, then Dr. Paul would be proud to say he is a conservative in precisely that same mold.

And this isn't just a bunch of meaningless talk, as most politics today is. Dr. Paul is truly different from all the other candidates, from both parties, including Obama and Kucinich. To see why, one need only look at his voting record, and his position on the issues. The war in Iraq, as it should, heads the list. Congressman Paul is one of the few who voted against it from the beginning, for reasons too numerous to list. In general, he believes the best way to support our troops is to bring them home, immediately. He is against this type of imperialist foreign policy, which the US has engaged in since the end of World War II, because it is bankrupting us, and our top priority should be getting our own house in order at home, rather than meddling in the internal affairs of other nations.

Which brings us to Dr. Paul's domestic policy, where he truly separates himself from the pack, and hits the nail squarely on the head as far as what is wrong with America. Try this on for size. As President, Dr. Paul would abolish the income tax, abolish the IRS, and abolish the Federal Reserve (FED), thereby returning the power to "coin" money back to Congress, where it belongs, and ultimately to the people. It is in these areas of monetary and fiscal policy where the root of America's problems lies. It is here too where you find one of the greatest scams ever perpetrated on the American people. In 1913, with the establishment of the FED, the US government basically sold itself to a private cartel of the world's wealthiest banks, and forfeited Congress's constitutional authority to "coin" (print) money to this cartel. A creditor/debtor (master/slave) relationship was established between this private banking cartel and Congress, in which the FED loans money to the Federal Government to pay for its exorbitant expenses, the interest on which is paid back by the American people through the income tax. The American people are misled to believe that the FED is part of the government, when, in fact, to put it bluntly, the FED owns the government. This is how the US government is capable of running up such astronomical debt, without any accountability. The FED allows it to happen because it profits immensely.
